Universalism collection, 1797-1991

The collection consists of booklets, magazines, pamphlets, photographs, sermons, and clippings all relating to the Universalist churches throughout the United States and written by Universalist clergy. Also included in the collection is material by Rev. Harold H. Niles, D.D. St. Lawrence Theological School class of 1914; his stories, sermons, and the Universalist Church General Conerence Association minutes for 1805-1907 from the library of Rev. Dewitt Lamphear.

Theological school in Canton, N.Y. Established in 1856 by the New York State Convention of Universalists. The theological school was part of St. Lawrence University but had a separate corporate existence. The theological school closed in 1965 and its assets passed to the St. Lawrence Foundation for Theological Education. Robert Cummins ( 1897-1982 ) was born in Sidney, Ohio . He received a BA from Miami University in 1919, an MA from the University of Cincinnati in 1921, and a ThM from the University of Southern California in 1937 .
